The final episode of Happy Valley does not disappoint in the ratings, tearing ahead of all competition. Love Island peaks with almost 3m viewers, and Michael McIntyre's Big Show becomes Saturday's most-watched.

The figures mentioned in this article include the usual platform data (those watching on tablets, phones & PC's) and pre-transmission data (those who watched the series or show before its first airing as part of the likes of a boxset) if it is applicable. Any data labelled with a * symbol means that this data is not included, and is just regular TV live viewing & catch-up alone. 

To no surprise, Happy Valley tops the charts once again as the thrilling series comes to a close. A massive 11.08m viewers tuned in to the series finale, showing a growth on the overnight figure by over 3.5M in seven days. This figure also puts the episode a huge 40% above the third series opener, as the series continued its upwards trend. With that far ahead, second place show Death in Paradise continued with 7.25m viewers, almost 4m below that of the Sarah Lancashire led series. BBC One continued its domination with all of the top five shows being from the station. Call the Midwife saw a rise in viewing, sitting at 6.99m viewers this week, up 280k on last week. The latest episode of The Apprentice, which saw contestants try and advertise an electric motorbike, reeled in another solid audience of 6.58m; this is 380k down on the previous instalment, however.

Once again, Vera was ITV1's best performer, sitting comfortably with 5.81m viewers this week; this is a slight drop on its very consistent figures by 150k, but only broadens the range to 5.8m-6.0m for its final audiences. Consistency is incredibly important. Last week, I posed the challenge as to whether Michael McIntyre's Big Show could close the gap, or overtake The Masked Singer for the top Saturday night offering, and it can. This week, the BBC show led by some margin, pulling in 5.75m on ITV1's 5.44m. A slight distance from this figure is where we see Dancing On Ice with 3.79m viewers, dropping from last week's 4.2M figure, to a new series low. Ekin-Su's elimination was the 6th most-watched programme of Sunday night according to data from BARB.

ITV1, of course, saw its top end of the charts dominated by the soaps. Coronation Street led the field with its highest audience being on Monday night with 5.05m viewers; Emmerdale peaked on Thursday with 4.54m. Both sat considerably ahead of EastEnders which managed a high of 3.76m, making it BBC One's 16th most-watched airing of the week. 

Channel 4 and 5 had another pretty decent week, but with a familiar run of shows topping their respective charts. The Great Pottery Throwdown continued to shape up some smashing figures, with its latest instalment cracking 2.56m* viewers, showing a pretty nice increase in audience by 150k. This week, SAS: Who Dares Wins was the channel's 5th most-watched programme, and held on to almost all of its original audience with 1.45m* tuning in. The Andrew Neil Show had 453k* viewers this week.

Channel 5's top shows were very close, but it was the second episode of The Catch which came out on top, entertaining 2.10m* viewers to Madame Blanc's 2.09m. Next week could see the two swap positions since the former suffered a loss of over 20% of its audience whereas Madame Blanc only lost 2.8%.

Another few shows continued to remain comfortably in the channel's top shows; 22 Kids & Counting sat with 1.37m* this week, and Open All Hours: 50 Years of Laughter opened up to 1.10m*. Jeremy Vine managed to reach 48th place with an audience of 287k* according to data from Thinkbox.

ITV2 made a little appearance in the charts this week, as Love Island touched 50th for its Thursday night episode, sunning it for 2.90m viewers, not far off its 3.4M opening. Can it find its audience once again to perhaps enter the charts a little bit more. After all, its platform viewing is far superior to most shows, even the big-hitters. 

This week has seen 2023's newest high with the finale of Happy Valley, but with no more, can anything else near its huge figures? New shows like Gold and Better are hitting screens in the week commencing 13th, so perhaps the influx of further dramas could shape up some solid ratings, especially since the former achieved over 4m on overnights alone. Platform Data: This is those who caught up on alternative screens such as PC's, phones or tablets. This data is used for most shows in this report, unless highlighted with a * symbol. 
Pre-Transmission Data: This figure is usually assigned to shows that drop a boxset before the initial airing of the episode in question, so will already have an audience before the first live airing of a given show. Few shows qualify for this data, however, but was available for figures applicable shows in this post unless labelled with a * symbol.
