Doctor Who Series 1, Episode 2 "The End of the World" Review

That far in the future and I still feel like they’re stuck in the early 2000’s. Having said that, I am loving it. Moisturise me, moisturise me! The Doctor offers Rose her first trip in the blue box and takes her on quite a strange first date. On Platform One, around five billion years in the future, The Doctor invites Rose to let her see her planet get burnt to a crisp and explode. It’s definitely a cool idea for a Doctor Who episode, but does Russell T Davies pull this one off? They arrive on this space station and already it seems ill-fitted to its time zone and purpose. It’s quite obviously terrestrial and even the equipment seems ill formatted to fit the time period. This does take you out of the episode a little bit because it really does ruin the whole aesthetic. However, we quickly develop the story as the party begins and we meet the special guests there to see the planet’s final hours. Jabe (Yasmin Bannerman) is a great addition and every speaking role is

Doctor Who Series 1, Episode 1 "Rose" Review

The Doctor is back! It may not be plastic fantastic but it’s okay.   Think back to March 2005, the beloved Sci-fi series from 1963 is about to hit our screens once more after 16 years. People from every generation are ready to see what The Doctor will face in his first outing of the new era. Here comes the classic monster, the Autons. The episode opens with that nice shot of the Earth before zooming in on Rose (Billie Piper) waking up for work – this shot being one of the most realistic in the entire show. We have a fast-paced opening sequence that allows us to gain insight into our new companion’s life and it’s one of the things I appreciated most about the episode. Within the first few moments, we’ve met Jackie and Mickey alongside Rose. Already we know that these three will be who we fall in love with. As the action seems to slow, it picks itself back up as we meet the Autons and The Doctor himself. Rose and The Doctor soon get acquainted albeit by a plastic arm attac

Doctor Who Series 2, Episode 1 "New Earth" Review

Five billion years in the future and I love that ‘chav’ is still used to insult someone. How very contemporary . Doctor Who returned in 2006 with a brand-new Doctor ready for his first series in the TARDIS. David Tennant's Doctor takes Rose to the far future to show her where the human race ends up after the happenings in the episode ‘The End of the World.’ Some old faces make an appearance and some new, fiendish cats become the enemy of the story. How is New Earth so weirdly good when it seems it shouldn’t be. The episode takes place in the year 5,000,000,023 in the city of New-New York. A mysterious message on The Doctor’s psychic paper was brings him all the way here where a deep and dark plot is uncovered. It is actually rather intriguing that this is an issue that wouldn’t surprise me if it happened today. The sisters of Plenitude are harbouring clone humans to experiment on in order to find cures for diseases of the time. To me, this ethical issue isn’t f
