REVIEW: RuPaul's Drag Race UK - Series 3, Episode 3 "Great Outdoors"
Back on form with some emotional moments. However, that judging sequence... Hmm.
P.S. A little foreword:
All comments are just my basic opinions and thoughts, and I am in no way a professional, nor should my comments be taken as such. Every Queen deserves endless love and support for the ART that they produce every single day. Even if I hated a look, it is not a comment on the Queen and their potential, as we all know Drag Race is reality TV and not a true reflection of a Queen's skillset. I support them all, and if any ever read this... You're stunning! Period. Head over and show these Queen's the love they deserve! Thank you so much, and enjoy! <3
Also, beware: SPOILERS AHEAD!
The design challenges are always my favourites. I have zero sewing skills, but I love watching the process these Queens go through. I'm also not on TV with my 0 skills, so that's something. Sadly, the episode begins on a more difficult note. Victoria Scone has had to withdraw from the competition, and it's quite disheartening to hear. I feel she had real potential in this competition, and I do continue to hope that she returns for Series 4. I'm confident she will elevate further, and may win the next series.
However, moving on from those more negative notes, we witness a Butch mini challenge that sees Scarlett Harlett win and gain a fifteen second head start on picking items to use for the challenge. The UK queens have a very nice ability to make even the cringiest of mini challenges enjoyable. This was one of them. As we go in to the challenge, I'm realising that I don't think anyone has said 'I can't sew.' It's a miracle on our screen! A Drag Race season has finally had this moment. Having said that, I could be wrong, but I'm sticking with it, for now.

I really loved the moment between Charity Kase and Kitty Scott-Claus. That message about HIV and how it is spread is so important to be said. I'm glad production allowed the scene to play out, and they didn't restrict it. A really beautiful moment.
This takes us to the challenge. The queen's had to present two looks. The first is one they brought known as 'Happy Campers.' The second is one they have designed, under the title 'Campfire Couture.' I was mostly impressed by the runways we got this episode. Some were a little questionable, and a couple were pretty awful, but the majority were rather well executed. Let's begin with the first runway, and my bottom choices. The ones I'd have to put in my bottom were Veronica Green, Choriza May and Vanity Milan. Their looks just didn't make sense with the category. Vanity's was a mismatch of colours and shapes, as was Choriza's, which doesn't make sense to me even after she explained it. Vanity also had those massive bags that just didn't make sense. Veronica's was just a bad idea. It almost looked like a bin bag wrapped around her. That does make me reminiscent of childhood Halloween's when I decided I wanted to go trick or treating at the last minute, but I don't want to see that on the runway of Drag Race UK. From that, my bottom two looks from this runway would have to be Veronica Green and Vanity Milan. I will narrow it down, though. My biggest boot of the first runway is Veronica Green.
Wherever there's bottoms, there's also tops. I liked quite a few runways from this category. A top few include River Medway, Krystal Versace and Scarlett Harlett. River's look was stunning. It was well-fitted, had a beautiful yellow trim, and I loved the netting around her face and arms; it was all constructed so well, and had that comedic flair to it. Krystal's was just so lovely, so fitted, so clean, and delivered extremely well. I also loved this rather different vibe that Scarlett was going for; I think it was a pretty successful look. My top two would have to be River Medway & Krystal Versace. My top for this runway, though, would have to go to River Medway.
And now we move on to the more positive notes. I have a few favourites this time, and that includes River Medway, Krystal Versace and Scarlett Harlett. It's almost like I've seen this once before? I feel all three delivered something that was wonderfully constructed, and they managed to make their unconventional materials into high fashion garments. It's a close race, but I think Krystal Versace just manages to take gold for this one. It's edgy, it's fitted, and it looks great.
As a result, I can definitely understand where the judges saw their tops and bottoms. Having said that, the highs and lows they chose, almost seemed incorrect. They talked as if nobody did especially well, and it was the strangest top and bottom six I've seen. Ella Veday was 'high' but had some rather mixed feedback which wasn't too different from the likes of Choriza May. It was an odd judgement. I am happy with Scarlett's win but I do believe River Medway was my top choice this week. She had two rather brilliant looks, and they were so elevated compared to previous runways. I do agree with the bottom two, still, and I feel the right person went home judged on the challenge and lip-sync. Veronica Green is so stunning, and I do feel like she's made a statement here, however short her run.
To finish, my top three this week were Krystal Versace, River Medway and Scarlett Harlett. My bottom three were the same as on the show: Veronica Green, Vanity Milan and Choriza May. This week was a nice improvement on episode two, and I'm interested to see where we go next. I don't feel as strongly towards UK3 as I did UK2 at this point, but let's see what's still to come!
